Course Description

Literacy for the Conceptual Age

This four-week course will help students recognize the significant changes that are occurring in our society, and discover how they can nurture the skills needed to be successful in a global world. Based on the work of contemporary writers like Daniel Pink, Thomas Friedman and Fareed Zakaria, the course will provide students with a framework for ongoing professional and personal development, regardless of their field.

‘Conceptual Age’ is a term that describes the era coming into existence as advances in technology decrease the value of Information Age skills. Some people describe the Conceptual Age as a ‘flattening’ of the world, where age-old barriers to communications and commerce have been removed.

Years from now, people will look back at our current decade as a seminal transition time, much like the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century. Through inquiry, reading and discussion, students will construct an understanding of how to survive and thrive in a time of great change.
